To know how much time is enough to apply minoxidil to the beard, I would like to clarify what the stages of hair growth are. Some people start applying minoxidil and as soon as they see results they stop their application risking losing what they got. In fact, there are people who lose everything after suspending the applications.
You should apply it 8 months on average
If you suspend the application of minoxidil you could lose everything. So, how long to use minoxidil for beard? The hair has a life process, where, from its birth until it falls out, several months have to pass.
This process can be divided into 3 main stages, which are:
Anagen phase: this phase is the longest, it can last up to 5 years. At this stage, the hair papilla nourishes the hair with keratin and other vitamins through the root, so it is growing all the time.
For how long can i use minoxidil
The next phase is the Catagena phase, where the hair separates from the papilla and stops receiving the nutrients to continue growing. The hair stops growing, remaining for a medium time on the scalp, approximately 1 or 2 weeks. This is often called the resting stage.
The telogen phase is the third stage, here the hair ends up falling out naturally and gives rise to a new follicle to create new hair. This phase lasts 2 months on average.
We believe that minoxidil speeds up the stages of hair growth. For example, due to the increase in blood supply, minoxidil can cause the hair to end its Cartagena stage – which lasts 15 days on average – and make it last less time. This is why some people who just apply minoxidil see hair starting to fall out instead of seeing new hair.
Constant application from 8 to 12 months
So, how long do you have to use minoxidil for a beard?
We believe that minoxidil will no longer be necessary once the hair has managed to grow on its own. And this takes a few months. For example minoxidil can make the hair go from its anagen phase to its telogen phase, bypassing the catagen phase, and if you stop the application, the hair will have no choice but to start from the beginning. You could see slow results or see no change.
We almost always recommend a constant application of 8 to 12 months on average for satisfactory results. Otherwise the results could be 20 or 30% reversible. The way to stop applying it is gradually. That is, it is not stopped from one day to the next, but slowly. For example at first only 3 times a week, then only 2 and so on until it is completely finished.
